Heber’s Art in Public Spaces Initiative

Our Vision: Turning empty walls in downtown Heber into huge public canvases is what Heber’s Art in Public Spaces initiative intends to accomplish.  Murals build a sense of community, they make it welcoming and walkable and make you want to go there.  Public art humanizes the built environment and invigorates public spaces.

Our Goal(s): To commission one world class mural, or other meaningful art work, in Heber’s downtown each year beginning in 2020.

Did you Know:  Heber’s downtown has suffered from limited public and private investment.  Public art is a proven tool for encouraging private investment.  According to Downtown Redevelopment Services, investments within a downtown have the highest return on investment of any economic development, averaging $3 to $1.

Who Are We: Heber’s Art in Public Spaces initiative is a collaborative effort between the Community Alliance for Main Street (CAMS), the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Heber City.

Our First Project: Located on the north facing wall of the Heber Chamber of Commerce, work on our first project commenced on July 20, 2020 by muralist Jason Quinn.   Jason was selected by an art’s committee from a call to muralists issued in the early spring of 2020.

            About the Muralist:  https://hebervalleylife.com/jason-quinn/

Investors for our first mural project included the Community Alliance for Main Street, the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce and Heber City.

How to get involved:

Investors:  Investors will be recognized publically and have their name, or the name of their business or family member, placed permanently on a plaque memorializing the investment in our downtown. Contact Heber City, CAMS or Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Muralist/Artist: Calls to artists will be issued periodically by Heber’s Art in Public Spaces.  Calls will be issued via Entry Thingy, Heber City Web Site, CAMS Web Site and Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce web site.
